I have trained my whole life. I grew up a swimmer in Nth Queensland and trained regularly on the run, in the gym and the pool. Adolescence saw me gravitate towards a gym culture including aerobics (yes the oz style grapevine!), step classes and bodyweight training. I embraced it all.
Training was fun.
I became an adult and travelled the world and discovered many approaches to health and well being. I learnt how to move well and feed the body. Carrying a pack the right way to save my back. I also learnt about recovery. Consistent practise of Yoga to still the fluctuations of the mind and elongate the muscles. Meditation to decompress and let go of the repeating thought patterns hot and cold bathing to encourage cellular repair.
I embraced nature as my gym. My eyes and heart were open to new perspectives, ideas and cultures.
I sustained these adventures with work in conferences, publishing, corporate sales and advertising. However, I knew that a life in the corporate sphere was not for me if I wanted to be truly happy. It was time for a new adventure. It was time for a change.
In 2000, I became a qualified remedial therapist and started a new career journey into health and wellbeing. It took me into clinic practise, massage on the beach, mobile corporate environments, special events , hot springs and in spa.
I learnt many body work modalities. I learnt them well and received recognition. I love being able to assist someone find relaxation rejuvenation and aid homeostasis through massage.
As a new mother on the Mornington Peninsula, I entrusted a Personal Trainer to help get my body and sense of self back and in turn be a better mother and partner.
I realised how important the role of trainer was to motivate and teach technique. To encourage and support mental health in conjunction with physical and emotional health.
My little family continued to travel the world and grow. We chose the simple path. We chose time together.
When my partner was diagnosed with cancer it shook us to our core. Whilst we fought as a unit to beat this hideous disease, it took the love of my life.
Movement saved me.
By this stage I had embraced HIIT, running and boxing training in addition to massage, meditation, yoga and stretching for relaxation, recovery and mobility. It allowed me let go of my pain and stress. It kept me focussed and calm. Movement and training gives an outlet for anger. It brings joy. It assisted me to support my partner through treatment and my children’s adolescence. Movement saved me from crumbling and helped me laugh at the world when it seemed to stop turning.
Exercise, mobility and recovery training supported my mental health and gave me the power and stamina to keep going.
I knew it was my future, so I retrained and became a Yoga teacher and fully accredited Fitness instructor and Personal trainer after COVID. I live this life.
